We test barriers on roads and multi-storey car parks using a simple, quick, static test to simulate a dynamic impact. An initial load is applied, the load and deflection is put into a formula and a target load is calculated. An iterative process of increasing the applied load and calculating a new target load is conducted, until the applied load equals the target load. Stiff barriers have low deflections and generate high target loads, whereas flexible barriers have high deflections and generate low target loads.

Testing of a barrier can result in damage; so we can repair the barrier immediately after testing, saving the cost of further visits and minimising disruption. We can also conduct dynamic tests for comparative design / performance testing.
